About Amare Stoudemire
Amare Stoudemire is a professional basketball player who currently plays for the New York Knicks of the NBA. He is a 3-time All-NBA Team selection, a 5-time All-Star, and an Olympic Bronze medalist. Stoudemire made his NBA debut in 2002, after the Phoenix Suns selected him with their ninth pick during the draft. His NBA success began in his rookie season, during which he averaged 13.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. In 2004, he was selected to play for the United States Olympic team, which went on to win a Bronze medal. During the 2004-2005 season, Stoudemire helped the Suns achieve a 62-20 record by averaging 26 points per game. Stoudemire eventually underwent both knee surgery and eye surgery, but he continued to prove himself on the court. Besides the achievements already mentioned, Stoudemire is also an NBA All-Star Rookie Challenge MVP, an All-NBA Rookie First Team selection, and a 3-time All-NBA Team selection.
The accomplishments of professional basketball player Amare Stoudemire are all the more impressive when one considers the disadvantages he faced prior to achieving his success. When he was 12, his father died. To make matters worse, his mother was in and out prison during that time period. Stoudemire says that, during that time in his life, he found inspiration by turning to God. Interestingly, Stoudemire did not start playing organized basketball until he was 14, and he attended six different high schools due to the instability in his family. Despite all this, he was drafted into the NBA directly out of high school and won the 2002-2003 NBA Rookie of the Year Award.
