About Aaron Pryor

Aaron Pryor is a retired boxer who is considered to be one of the greatest junior welterweight fighters of all time. Pryor won a silver medal at the 1975 Pan American Games, participated in the 1976 Summer Olympics, and even defeated boxing legend Thomas “Hitman” Hearns in the finals of the 1976 National Golden Gloves. Pryor was also the 1972 National AAU Champion. In 1980, Pryor knocked out Antonio Cervantes to become the new junior welterweight champion. Pryor is perhaps most famous for his series of fights with Alexis Arguello, all of which he won. His first match against Arguello, which he won by TKO in the fourteenth round, was named both “Fight of the Year” and “Fight of the Decade” by The Ring magazine.

Pryor ended his professional career with a record of 40-1 with 35 knockouts. His only loss came in 1987 during an attempted comeback from retirement. He retired permanently in 1990 and was elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1996.
